Humana People to People at ICASA 2025

The International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) is a driving force for progress on the continent’s most urgent public health challenges. It brings together leaders, partners, and communities shaping the future of Africa’s HIV and TB responses. ICASA 2025, from 3–8 December in Accra, Ghana, offers a pivotal opportunity to shape and scale solutions led by people and rooted in community action.

For Humana People to People, ICASA 2025 is an opportunity to amplify the voices and experiences of communities across Africa that continue to bear the greatest burden of HIV, TB, malaria, noncommunicable diseases and other related health issues. We start with people, not disease. Our work is grounded in community mobilisation, engaging individuals and groups to organise, make informed decisions, and act collectively to improve their health and wellbeing.

At ICASA, we will present our integrated approaches to HIV and TB prevention, testing, treatment adherence, and community resilience. We strengthen community-led structures by mobilising volunteers as a community-driven united front, building local capacity to raise awareness, identify cases early, and support people throughout treatment.

We will also highlight our Total Control of the Epidemic (TCE) model, centred on person-to-person mobilisation and counselling. TCE equips people with knowledge and agency while connecting them to essential services, helping close the gap between health facilities and those too often left behind.

Experience shows that peer educators, community health workers, and local leaders form the backbone of resilient health networks that deliver lasting results.

We welcome governments, partners, researchers, policymakers, and community members to connect with us at ICASA 2025. Together, we can empower communities, expand access to essential health services, and work towards a healthier future for all across Africa.

Our approach and work

Humana People to People members work with rural communities hardest-hit by climate change to adapt and build resilience for the future. Our work is cross-cutting, working with smallholder farmers and community-based organizations to address food security, disaster preparedness, health, gender, biodiversity, value chains, and more. Through the collection and sale of second-hand clothing, we actively contribute to a circular economy, while also funding essential development cooperation in the Global South.

Get an in-depth look at the documents below to know more about our approach and key climate action projects.
