International AIDS Day December 1ST

In Kinshasa (DRC), Child Aid Kingabwa marked the International AIDS Day on December 1st. On the day, members from the Family Action Groups in Child Aid distributed flyers about HIV&AIDS encouraging people to be tested and know their HIV status. Another group of Child Aid members distributed condoms from booths put up in the streets.

In order to create attention about the event, Child Aid had engaged a big group of local motor cycle taxi drivers to lead the procession down the main streets in Kingabwa. After the motor cycle drivers with posters others followed, and more flyers inviting people to be tested were distributed.

During the day, Child Aid talked to more than 2000 people about HIV&AIDS and 155 people came to the Child Aid center to be tested. The testing was done by health professionals from local group of HIV positive women, Femmes Plus.

The center was open for everybody who wanted to know more about HIV&AIDS, and more than 250 young people used the occasion to come to the center and learn more about HIV/AIDS, and how to protect yourself against the epidemics.
