A short in the arm for Mikolongwe
In its bid to support the improvement of skills and economic livelihood of under privileged youths in Malawi, Stitching Gered Gereedschap of Holland has provided training tools to Mikolongwe Vocational Training School which will go a long way in benefiting youths in the country.
Mikolongwe Vocational Training School will reach more people in the satellite village training programs with informal skills thanks to the support of the tools. The donation will form part of a crucial compliment in strengthening the training of a well rounded youth who is ready to sustain his/her economy or get employment in the formal industry. Increasing demand of the training in vocational and technical skills demands better resources for use during training and gives better adaptability of the trained person to the demands of today’s world.
The Project Leader at DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School, Augustus Kaliyati expressed his sincere gratitude for the donation, saying it will go a long way towards enriching students practical understanding and improving their skills which is in line with the school’s motto ‘Skills and Knowledge for Many is Key to Development”.
“These tools have come at the opportune time when our school needs the tools the most. We do not take this timely gesture for granted and we sincerely thank our partner Stitching Gered Geredschap for making this donation,” Kaliyati said.
The target beneficiaries are school leavers, dropouts, orphans and less privileged youths who are pursing vocational and technical courses which include tailoring, carpentry, bricklaying, welding and fabrication.
DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School provides youths who are unable to be absorbed in the government and private training colleges with skills through the practical training program that enables them to become economically productive either in formal employment or self-employment. The students are offered general education within subjects that broaden their knowledge and develop their personal and social skills.
