Effects of Vocational School Cabinda
The school has an extensive network of former students, many of whom are today employed in various institutions and organizations. They have much respect for what they learned at the school, both in terms of vocational skills as personal skills. Many mention that during their time at the school, they expanded their vision to what they may be able to achieve In their life and are fighting to achieve that.
The vocational school serves the population in many ways. Many young people have learned Computer skills or English at the school, which has helped them gain employment. Many Students who have done the electricity course are self employed and working to meet Community needs for skilled electricians. At the same time, they are making a good living for themselves and their families. The education at the school is broad based and the life skill training, the close contact between teacher and student and the moral and civil education all contribute to the students to be active citizens.
Two of the vocational training course, Hotel and Catering, and Administration, are exclusively for female students. The idea of having special course for girls and women is to encourage women to prioritize education. Girls are normally much weaker in expressing themselves in public and they have more space to learn this on female only courses. They are also forced to take care of all aspects of their course, from public presentations to practical tasks without letting men take over. In a wider perspective, the school is increasing the number of educated female in the area. Also, by working with gender issues in theory and in practice with the male and female students at the school, the school is influencing attitude to gender throughout the area as the students take new attitudes and experiences home with them.
