Humana People to People addresses marginalized children and youth in cooperation with governments by running 18 school institutions for orphans and vulnerable children and youth in 6 countries. Some of the schools are boarding schools, where a number of students stay at the school and have their home in a full time program. They get a solid offset for their future, along with some very good years of school life and safety in the company of responsible and caring grown-ups. They learn academic and practical skills, and they learn social skills by staying together with others. Thus they get well prepared for an independent life where they cater for themselves. In addition there are day students at these schools. Others are day schools with similar program elements. In India the schools are Academies for Working Children, especially designed with a flexible program to meet the needs the poorest slum children, and they work with the parents and communities to improve their conditions in various aspects. The children’s schools have an extensive cooperation with the social welfare systems in the respective countries, who refer the students to the schools.
