The Federation for Associations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement started a new part of its work in Yunnan province in China in 2005 after a cooperation agreement had been signed with Yunnan Province Foreign Capital Poverty Alleviation Project Management Centre, - a provincial government department under Yunnan Poverty Alleviation and Development Office. Before that Humana People to People had since 2001 supported Yunnan Institute of Development with training of Development Instructors and its Child Aid project. At present the Federation operates directly through a Humana People to People Cooperation Project Office of Yunnan Province (HPP CPO) until it will be possible to obtain an independent registration in China.
The purpose of HPP CPO is to raise funds for and implement projects within poverty alleviation in a broad sense, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases and job preparedness and vocational training centres.
HPP CPO started to implement projects in January 2007 with TCE in Linxiang District reaching out to 300.000 people. Since then a malaria project has started reaching at present 1.500.000 people, a Community Ability Development (CAD /Child Aid) project in Zhenkang and a Farmers Club project also in Zhenkang. A small POF project is attached to the CAD project. In November 2009 a new TB Control project has started. TCE finished its 3 year program in June 2009. Humana People to People continues to support Yunnan Institute of Development and its Child Aid project and has in cooperation with and under the legal framework of YID started a HOPE Humana project in Kunming and a HOPE After TCE project in Linxiang. In cooperation with a multinational company HPP in China has in 2009 started a project reaching migrant communities in Dongguan Prefecture in Guangdong Province. This project will continue in 2010
Humana People to People in China has a plan of starting 13 new projects in 2010 to meet the needs of the big poor rural population plan. Some of the new projects will be started in new provinces, so the work in Yunnan Province will be expanded to Sichuan and Chongqing Provinces and more projects in Guangdong Province.
These new project will depend mainly on donor funding and only start when this is secured. 3 of the new projects are in process of contract signing. The new plans require an expansion of the partnership team and this will be in place from the beginning of March 2010 Click here to visit HPP China
