Hon. Frank T. Mwenifumbo, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security

Recomendations from Malawi

The Government of Malawi through this Ministry applaud the good work DAPP Malawi is doing on the agriculture sector.

The Ministry also appreciate the DAPP Farmers Clubs Programme because it sets goals and targets to meet the development of the farmers.

The exchange of technical know how between the Ministry and DAPP is also very important. We have a lot to learn from DAPP. The Government of Malawi will be more than happy to assist DAPP in promoting the Farmers Club Program and to advocate for adoption of the pot holing technology, conservation agriculture and for resource mobilisation to secure the expansion of the program to reach out to many more farmers in Malawi.

Marc Visocky, Sustainable Economic Growth (SEG) Team Leader USAID/Malawi

Recomendations from USAID Malawi

What DAPP Farmers Club has done in Malawi is very much in line with the Ministry of Agriculture. They are like a lot of other partners who have really focused and concentrated on food security uptakes, nutrition and diversification of crops in the program.

What DAPP Farmers Clubs has done by investing in rope and pulley pumps is quite unique, simple and genius in design, we encourage that as USAID.

We are pleased as US Government with the progress Planet Aid has achieved through DAPP - they have brought a lot of innovations into the agriculture sector. We are happy to work with them through our own partners and through giving them technical advice.

Recomendations from Zimbabwe

We have for the last 10 year been working together with Development Aid from People to People, (DAPP) Zimbabwe. The last 3 years DAPP has been implementing a Farmers’ Clubs programme among 18.000 farmers.

Throughout this programme Zimbabwe Farmers Union and DAPP extension officers have complemented each others for the benefit of the 18.000 farmers.

Zimbabwe Farmer Union has been participating in joints meetings, in workshops and events arranged by DAPP on dry land farming, environmental issues and farming business skills.

The presence of DAPP among these 18.000 farmers with an innovative programme brought somehow synergy to the combined service system available to the farmers in the area.

The Provincial Manager

Recomendations from USDA

It is with great satisfaction that I follow the ongoing, tremendous success of the Farmers Clubs program. This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and implemented in partnership with Humana People to People is providing significant benefit to small-scale farmers in Mozambique and Malawi.

The Farmers Clubs program has witnessed tremendous progress in both countries. Participating farmers have increased output, they use conservation farming techniques, many have started raising animals as a second income source and, perhaps most importantly, farmers have been linked to viable markets and are able to sell their products at better prices.

It is obvious that this program has enabled farmers to improve not only their own lives, but also the living conditions for rural communities where they live and work. USDA is pleased and proud to be part of this effort.

Project coodinator

Recomendations from FACT in Mozambique

The FACT project in Cabo Delgado,Mozambique for which I am the coordinator is introducing Jatropha as an energy crop in combination with food crops within the Farmers Clubs. It is working quite well, During the project it is building up that for small holder farmers it is probably a much better concept to organize FC’s which will plant energy crops together with food crops than the concept of large plantations with only energy crops. It is also showing that food and energy crops can go together well, being good for both people and planet and providing profit as well.
