The start of Famers’ Clubs was 15 years ago when Zimbabwe small farmers united with HUMANA PEOPLE TO PEOPLE to form what was then appropriately named “From Communal Farmer to Commercial Farmer” and “Farmers’ Clubs”.

The idea was to facilitate small farmers in their quest to farm efficiently so that they could produce enough from their small plots to feed their families and to earn cash by selling their surplus produce in the market.

The ways were – among others – to teach the farmers to grow more efficiently by controlling all production processes, getting a grip on the expenses, choosing the right crops to grow, and organizing to sell surplus peoduce at the right price. The programs involved the whole farmer family, promoting equality between husband and wife in the process. The results were an impressive betterment of the production results for the farmers and a betterment of the living conditions for the farmers.
