Development Instructors raise funds to support pre-school education in Zambezia province, Mozambique

The ADPP teacher training college in Macuse in Zambezia province, Mozambique is running 4 community pre-schools with a total enrolment of 220 children.

The teacher training college in Macuse is a project by ADPP in Mozambique. The project is training rural primary school teachers who are ready to take development work as an integral part of the teaching profession by contributing to the development of rural schools and rural communities in Zambezia province.

The college is working in collaboration with 2 international volunteers, “development instructors” at the project. The development instructors are people from different backgrounds who volunteer to spend their time doing development work at one of Humana People to People projects in Africa. Humana People to People is training development instructors in Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom, United States of America, China, India and South Africa for 6 months before working for 6 or 12 months as development instructors in Africa. Humana People to People is an international organisation involved in international cooperation and development. ADPP in Mozambique is a member of the federation of associations connected to the international Humana People to People movement.

The 2 development instructors and student teachers doing teaching practice in the rural schools in Zambezia province have started construction of a pre-school in Muptapula, where 110 pre-school children are having lessons under a tree.
The development instructors raised funds for the construction of the pre-school during the 6 months training period at development instructors institute before coming to the teacher training college in Mozambique. The funds are used to buy building materials and the community is contributing by providing materials like pit sand, river sand, and voluntary labour.

In Mazuao construction of another pre-school is progressing at the same rate as that of the school, which was destroyed by the storm and the community is contributing in the construction process.

The project is training pre-school teachers in a series of seminars once every 2 weeks. The pre-school teachers are learning about child development, and teaching and learning methods.
